15110 M1909 bayonet with MATCHING scabbard. GN WITH NO CREST DGFM (FMAP) This was arsenal refinished for the Gendarmerie with it's original crest and serial number removed from the ricasso and restamped "G.N." over "00727". The scabbard still bears the original serial number "015227" and has "00727" added below/above it depending on which way you want to hold the scabbard to look at it. I've been told that 405 of these were produced AFTER the first production run of 500 which had the crest so that's why the serial number is above 500. Blade remains unsharpened.

14415 M1871/84 bayonet produced by STEYR and marked OEWG on the ricasso with sn 8??7 on right side of crossguard. These were supplied to China, The UFV in Ireland and possibly other clients along with German pattern GEW1888 Commission Rifles that Steyr produced under license. The serial number placement is in keeping the Irish use but proves nothing lacking the UFV cartouche on the grips. Overall condition is poor.

The Second World War saw the dramatic rise in automatic weapons and a revolution in their implementation and use. The US was the only combatant to enter the war with a military which had a semi-automatic rifle in general issue - the M1 Garand. The rest of the combatants were armed with bolt action rifles and relatively small numbers of submachine guns.
Egypt also produced a design which used a direct gas impingement system, the Hakim (see image #4) chambered in 7.92 Mauser. This was a licensed version of the Swedish AG42 which Sweden had adopted the rifle chambered in 6.5x55mm in limited numbers in 1942. However, the Egyptians produced approximately 70,000 Hakim rifles which remained in service into the 1960s when they were replaced by an Egyptian AK-47 clone.
41 The resort to Jewish history extended, of course, to Lehi itself. The writings included myriad references to those who had fought for national liberation from biblical times until the period of the Yishuv. Lehi fighters portrayed themselves and were portrayed by others as the latest link in "the chain of heroes of the Jewish people, a people that had fought for its freedom with more force, more strength, more sacrifice and more determination than any other nation in the world."42 The Maccabees, though, were considered to be the role model par excellence. Lehi publications were at pains to point out the implications of the Hasmonean victory of "the few over the many." Despite their small numbers, it was argued, the members of Lehi must perform "a Maccabean act" and conduct "a war of national liberation, a war against Hellenists and traitors, a war of terror, and a war on the battlefield, against the alien ruler in the land."43 2ff7e9595c
